Stitch Garden Helpers, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — rabbits and mice pop out of a flower pot, a watering can, a basket and a cabbage in a long garden border.

A little stitcher's folklore: Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit first raided Mr McGregor's garden in print in 1902.

Why this kit: from the Margaret Sherry Collection, her cheeky animals are full of character and fill a long, narrow panel ideal above a door or shelf.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the pots and animals in cross stitch from the left, then add the outlines in back stitch and the French knots.

Finished size: 38×14 cm (15×5.5 in). A cheerful piece for a gardener's home.
