Stitch Proud as a Peacock, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a stiletto swirls with peacock blues, greens and purples, with feathery plumes and tendrils flowing from its heel.

A little stitcher's folklore: only male peafowl, the peacocks, grow the long train of eye-spotted feathers.

Why this kit: part of Sally King's Shoe Art Collection, it turns a fantasy high heel into a whole scene, with every swirl of peacock colour charted for you.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the shoe in cross stitch from the centre, then add the swirling outlines in back stitch.

Finished size: 22×26 cm (8.7×10.2 in). A striking piece for a dressing room or bedroom.
