Stitch A Christmastide Tale, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a green shoe of pine branches has a nutcracker soldier as its heel and a girl in red dancing at the toe among baubles.

A little stitcher's folklore: Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker was first performed in St Petersburg in 1892.

Why this kit: in Sally King's Shoe Art style, it retells the Nutcracker story in a single festive shoe.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch, fractionals, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the shoe and figures in cross stitch from the centre, then add fractionals, back stitch and French knots.

Finished size: 22×30 cm (8.7×11.8 in). A festive piece for ballet lovers.
