Stitch Walk Home, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a grassy green shoe climbs to a railed path at the heel, with topiary trees, trailing greenery and a little cottage at the toe.

A little stitcher's folklore: topiary dates back to Roman gardens, where clipped box hedges were a sign of wealth.

Why this kit: part of Sally King's Shoe Art Collection, it turns a fantasy high heel into a whole scene, stitched on fine 16-count Aida for crisp garden detail.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the shoe and garden in cross stitch from the centre, then add the railings in back stitch and the French knots.

Finished size: 27×25 cm (10.6×9.8 in). A charming piece for a keen gardener.
